Road To Independence, Inc. (RTI) is excited to announce that we are once again the recipient of a grant from the New Hampshire Charitable Fund! This grant is made possible by gifts from the following fund(s): an anonymous fund, Daisy Hale Fund, Delphinium Fund, Kineo Fund, Rosebud Fund. The grant award for $30,000 ($10,000 a year for 3 years) will support, in part, operations, board development and securing resources as we develop a long-term strategic plan for both the bakery and farm programs, thus enabling us to continue offering empowering opportunities for residents of differing abilities.
Road To Independence has been offering non-riding equine therapy, horticultural and outreach programs since 2011 and in 2017 opened Aurora Bakery. In our farm program, individuals can work with our miniature donkeys, participate in our seasonal garden project, our weekly farmers market booth and our “On the Road” outreach program visiting local long-term care facilities and other local events. Participants in our programs learn and improve life skills, gain self-confidence and self-esteem, and form meaningful relationships in our communities.
RTI is a non-profit organization operating primarily on grant funding, donations, sponsorships, and volunteers who offer their time and talents under the direction of Executive Director, Margaret Coulter. Megan Walker is the full-time manager, teacher, mentor and backbone of Aurora Bakery. At Aurora Bakery, under Megan’s tutelage, participants work in all aspects of the bakery from making baked goods fr
om scratch, packaging goods for sale and waiting on customers. We are proud to say that in addition to Megan, we have now employed three individuals who started as participants, hired an additional part-time bakery employee and are looking to add to the bakery staff in the future.
The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation is New Hampshire’s statewide community foundation, founded in 1962 by and for the people of New Hampshire. They manage a growing collection of more than 2,000 funds
